Soft Sand Marathon and Chats
The idea for a self-imposed soft sand marathon originally came from just wanting to do it for myself. Personal challenges, growth and doing the hard stuff for the sake of hard stuff. But it’s since turned into something more.
My dad has struggled with mental health on and off for the last decade. 10 years ago, he tried to take his life. And recently, he’s tried to do it again.
*He's now receiving the help he needs.
Sometimes it can be really hard for us to know what to do, where to go, who to talk to. We can feel alone, scared, powerless, ashamed. I truly believe that everybody wins when we connect a little bit more deeply with each other. Our community, friends, the barista, the guy on the bus. It helps us be seen, we can be heard, we can feel like we’re a part of something. Those connections bring us all a little bit closer.
So to create a small excuse for us to connect a little more, I’m doing a physical challenge where I’ll be running a marathon on the soft sand in Bondi. Lucky for me, the stretch of beach is exactly one kilometre long, so you guessed it, I’m going to be doing quite a few laps of that. Plenty of chances to give me a wave.
My ask is that you come down and say hello. You say hello to me, you say hello to other people that are there. It doesn’t have to be about anything serious. It doesn’t have to be about mental health. Bring your nonsense banter and laughs. All energies are welcome.
Use this as an excuse to connect with your community, start conversations, share your story, or just practice listening a little more. I’d love it if you came down, run a lap with me on the sand, along the boardwalk, give me snacks or just a high-five.
